American actress, author, producer and model Cameron Diaz was born on this day in 1972. Diaz was working as a model when she auditioned for a role in 'The Mask' (1994) starring opposite Jim Carrey. Despite having no previous acting experience, to her amazement she landed the role. Over the next few years she honed her acting skills in the low budget independent films 'The Last Supper' (1995), 'Feeling Minnesota' (1996) and 'Head Above Water' (1996). Returning to the mainstream she starred in the Farrelly Brothers hit comedy 'There's Something About Mary' (1998) which brought her increased recognition and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.
Her reputation for playing serious dramatic roles as well as comedy was enhanced with her next two films 'Any Given Sunday' (1999) and 'Being John Malkovich' (1999). Going into the new century she starred in a number of major studio productions including 'Charlie's Angels' (2000), 'Gang of New York' (2002), 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle' (2003), 'The Holiday' (2006) and 'Knight and Day' (2010) as well as voicing the character of Princess Fiona in the 'Shrek' series (2001-2010).
Diaz returned to comedy in the 2010s starring in 'Bad Teacher' (2011), 'The Other Woman' (2014) and 'Sex Tape' (2014). Her role in the musical 'Annie' (2014) would be her last before confirming her retirement in 2018. Earlier this year Cameron Diaz returned to acting starring in 'Back in Action' (2025). Happy Birthday Cameron.
